Management Team

Ten years ago, John Sinkus and Carl Thomas started BTE Consulting with a vision of bridging the gap between business and IT. Former CIOs, they understand the challenges executives face as they align technology with business goals in order to rationalize initiatives.

They also are IT experts and architecture “pioneers,” having developed several industry-leading models and tools. Their collective experience forms the basis of BTE’s enterprise architecture framework, which in turn spurs clients to achieve greater results.

John Sinkus, President & Co-Founder

Described by his colleagues as a great leader, John Sinkus is thoughtful in his approach and steadfast to the solutions he provides, and their outcomes.

As the President and Co-founder of BTE Consulting, Mr. Sinkus has nearly 30 years of business and enterprise technology experience. In his role, he is responsible for leading the executive management team and board of advisors, managing the organization’s solution offerings and overseeing the company’s back office functions.

With expertise across a number of industry verticals including financial services, insurance and health care, Mr. Sinkus has successfully orchestrated several large-scale, global projects with responsibility for budgets ranging from $8 million to $45 million and project teams spread across several countries. His role as a technology visionary on these projects has helped his clients rise to the peaks of their industries.

Prior to starting BTE Consulting, Mr. Sinkus was the Managing Partner for a national information technology consulting company. In this role, he was responsible for the Midwest region, the firm’s largest entity, including the quality of all consulting engagements, sales and recruiting, P&L management and overall branch operations. Mr. Sinkus also served as European Chief Information Officer of a major international benefits consulting company where he managed the operations of 13 offices across eight countries and focused on partnering European business needs with appropriate technical solutions.

A noted speaker and thought leader, Mr. Sinkus has presented to Chief Executive Officers and Board of Directors for credit unions and federal home loan banks as well as Fortune 500 companies, and presented at numerous business and technology seminars. He is also the author of a systems architecture methodology currently being utilized and sold by a large, publicly held international consulting company.

Mr. Sinkus holds bachelor of science degrees in Mathematics and Psychology from Loyola University Chicago, and a diploma in General Management International Studies from Ashridge Business School in Berkhamsted Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom.

Carl Thomas, Chief Operating Officer & Co-Founder

Early in his career, Carl Thomas recognized the importance of using technology to support the business and has made it his life’s work to provide companies with the right information to make the best decisions for their business.

Mr. Thomas’ ability to communicate in clear and concise terms makes it easy to forget he’s a seasoned IT expert with nearly 30 years of experience. In his role as COO, he is responsible for client acquisition and project delivery.

Mr. Thomas has overseen small to large-scale, global IT projects with responsibility for budgets ranging from $4 million to $100 million. His business and technical expertise span a variety of areas, including drawing the most value from technology investments and the selection, implementation and integration of core systems. His project management expertise and keen insight into both business and technology have saved his clients millions of dollars.

Prior to a series of successful consulting engagements that led to the formation of BTE Consulting, Mr. Thomas served as Director of Applications Development for a $2.4 billion manufacturer of packaging materials. There, he kept a critical $100 million SAP project on schedule and saved the company $5 million dollars that would have otherwise been lost. Mr. Thomas also served as Vice President of Information Technology for SunSource, where he successfully built and implemented the company's integrated supply system.

Mr. Thomas holds a master of business administration degree from Roosevelt University and a bachelor of science in quantitative methods from the University of Illinois.
